Influence of Service Conditions on Load Carrying Capacity of RICON S VS Beam Hangers
Pre- engineered beam hangers are more commonly used in mass and heavy timber construction as connection performance requirements are increasing. Timber as a hygroscopic material is impacted by conditions in service and the effects of shrinkage and swelling in varying conditions must be considered in design of connections. The effects on the load carrying capacity of mass timber beam hanger systems due to pre-service moisture content variations were investigated with this research project and code proposed service condition factors are evaluated. Furthermore, observed impacts on connector stiffness are presented.
