Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) can be a sustainable substitute for steel and concrete with potential to become the main structural element in commercial low and high-rise buildings. Pre-manufactured panels which already have all openings cut off site are lifted in place and simply connected with screws. The large variety of reliable engineered structural ASSY screws available provides the ideal solution to all engineers and architects working with CLT.
Our structural screws are ideally suited for all panel to panel, panel to beam and panel to post connections required in CLT construction.

Old growth costal Fir harvested in the 1900's was build into large span heavy timber trusses to form the roof structure of an old industrial building near the Olympic village in False Creek Vancouver. As a result of drying the truss members showed significant cracks which may reduce the structural capacity of the truss members. In order to reuse the large cross section timbers reinforcement was needed. Engineered structural ASSY VG full thread wood screws were used to reinforce cracked truss members. In addition full thread screws were also used to locally reinforce traditional joinery between truss members.

Reinforcing Vancouvers Heritage with ASSY screws
Many of the old growth heavy timber post and beam structures in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada were built just about 100 years ago. Back in the days kilns were not available and the heavy sawn posts and beams were raised green. Over the decades drying of the wood caused heavy cracks that eventually reduce the bearing strength of posts and beams. To keep the structure functional reinforcement was needed. As the building is located in the downtown core it is fully occupied with different companies which must keep working during construction. With fully equipped office space in place several reinforcement methods were out of question. The most efficient reinforcing while keeping office space occupied was done with ASSY VG full thread wood screws made in Germany.
